While Tron Legacy has yet to hit theaters, let alone Blu-ray, we here at BRV are excited about a lot of the aspects of the film.
The Disney film will feature another Dolby 7.1 surround sound theatrical soundtrack, which will no doubt be translated to either lossless Dolby TrueHD 7.1 or DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 on Blu-ray. Along with that, famous electronic music superstars Daft Punk will be creating an original musical score for the entire movie.
Director Joseph Kosinski had this to say:
“I had been listening to Daft Punk for almost ten years before I met them at the 101 Coffee Shop in Hollywood one morning in November 2007. I sat down not knowing what to expect, and I was immediately struck by their deep knowledge and love of film and particularly the sanctity in which they held Steven Lisberger’s TRON. It quickly became clear to me that this had the potential to be an exciting collaboration. With topics that ranged from Bernard Hermann to Wendy Carlos, the discussion revealed a shared desire to create a score that blended classic orchestral themes with an electronic minimalism in a way that had never been done before. I walked out knowing that there was an opportunity here to create something truly special. Now, three years later, we are in the final stages of mixing and the result has truly exceeded my high expectations. Because the score was developed in parallel with the production of the film, I’ve had the opportunity to live with it for over a year now and it never fails to thrill and inspire me as we near the finish line. I am excited for you to experience Daft Punk’s first contribution to the world of film scoring – I have a feeling it won’t be their last.”
Update: TRON: Legacy RECONFIGURED Album:
Beginning February 15, 2011, fans can order the TRON: Legacy Blu-ray or DVD through tronsoundtrack.com and receive the TRON: Legacy RECONFIGURED CD (featuring 14 remixes of the original score by today’s hottest club mixers), bonus material (digital-only) of previously unreleased alternate takes and score cues from the film, and TRON Betrayal: An Original Graphic Novel Prequel To TRON: Legacy.
Released today is a 6-minute medley of tracks from the official motion picture soundtrack. We liked it, and hope you’ll get a kick out of it too. It might be a hint of great things when the film hits BD.
