Update 03/07/11: More details and full announcement of Lord of the Rings Extended Blu-ray here.

These are both coming in from the rumor-front, but we can likely expect both the Extended Editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as the Jurassic Park trilogy on Blu-ray this year.

Both very highly anticipated titles, Universal likely wants to keep the interest up as the two-part The Hobbit prequel is priming to be released in 2012 in 3D. So we’ll likely get those on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D, and then afterwards an ultimate Middle Earth collection of all five films, with even more new extras (Can you handle it?). The Digital Bits expects more official news about the Extended Trilogy Set to trickle in within the coming weeks, and we’ll report about it here.

In similar rumor-grounded news, in an interview with French movie site Ecran Large, Eric Legay, who is the marketing director for the French division of Universal Pictures, let slip that they have plans on releasing several catalog releases for Blu-ray in 2011, including Jurassic Park (also rumored to be ninja-shooting a sequel), Scarface, Winchester 73, Shenandoah, High Plains Drifter, and several Alfred Hitchcock films. Some of this information was taken down from the site afterwards as it’s likely that Universal was unready to officially make some of these announcements so soon. We have high hopes for Jurassic Park, as Steven Spielberg’s catalog titles recently have all been absolutely top-grade Blu-rays.
